Lawful Personal Use

The Catalogue is provided for lawful, personal, non-commercial enjoyment. You may browse, download, and read the ebooks and accompanying editorial content for your own private use. Any other use, including but not limited to republication, redistribution, or public display of substantial portions, requires prior written permission from the Collection Editor.

Prohibited Misuse

You agree not to:

  • Use the Catalogue for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws.
  • Attempt to disrupt, impair, or overload the servers, networks, or infrastructure that support the Catalogue.
  • Engage in automated extraction, scraping, data mining, or any form of bulk downloading of content without explicit authorization.
  • Interfere with the proper functioning of the Catalogue, including introducing malware, viruses, or other harmful code.

Automated Extraction and Interference

Automated tools, bots, scripts, or any software that systematically retrieves content from the Catalogue are strictly prohibited unless expressly permitted in writing. We reserve the right to monitor access patterns and to block or throttle any activity that appears to be automated or abusive.

Bibliographic and Transcription Limitations

The ebooks in the Catalogue have been prepared from various sources, including public-domain texts, scanned editions, and volunteer transcriptions. While we strive for accuracy, we cannot guarantee that every text is free from errors, omissions, or variations from the original works. Bibliographic details, such as publication dates, author attributions, and edition information, are provided as editorial best estimates and may not be definitive.

Copyright and Public-Domain Status

We believe that the works presented in the Catalogue are in the public domain in the United States and many other countries. However, copyright laws vary by jurisdiction, and the public-domain status of a work may differ elsewhere. It is your responsibility to verify the legal status of any work before using it in a manner that may require permission. Some editorial content—such as introductions, reading notes, and annotations—may be protected by copyright and is offered for personal use only.

User Responsibility

You are solely responsible for your use of the Catalogue and for compliance with all applicable laws. We do not assume any responsibility for how you use the content, including any consequences arising from your reliance on the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any material.

Third-Party Links

The Catalogue may contain links to external websites or resources. These links are provided for convenience only; we do not endorse or control the content, policies, or practices of any third party. Accessing such links is at your own risk, and we are not liable for any damages or losses arising from your use of them.

Technical Availability

We endeavor to maintain reliable access to the Catalogue, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. The Catalogue may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, technical issues, or events beyond our control. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Catalogue at any time without notice.

Editorial Notes and Presentation

Editorial content—including the “Reader’s Shelf,” “Inside the Classic,” “Reading Notes,” “Context and Discussion,” “Key Ideas to Explore,” and similar features—reflects the personal interpretations and opinions of the Collection Editor and contributors. These materials are offered to enrich your reading experience and should not be considered authoritative literary criticism. Where enabled, user comments or reviews may appear; we are not responsible for their content and may remove them at our discretion.

Warranty Disclaimer

THE CATALOGUE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR ACCURACY. NO WARRANTY IS MADE THAT THE CATALOGUE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS OR BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE.

Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE CLASSIC SCIENCE FICTION ARCHIVE AND ITS COLLECTION EDITOR SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE CATALOGUE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IN JURISDICTIONS THAT DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF CERTAIN LIABILITIES, OUR LIABILITY SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

Suspension of Abusive Access

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to the Catalogue for any user who violates these Terms or engages in abusive, disruptive, or unlawful behavior. Such actions may be taken without prior notice and at our sole discretion.

Service Changes

We may modify, add, or remove features of the Catalogue from time to time. These Terms will apply to any such changes unless expressly stated otherwise. We will endeavor to notify users of material changes through the Catalogue itself, but are not obligated to do so individually.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. The invalid provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable while preserving its intent.
